The Faculty Services page is available with links to cover all sorts of special services for Faculty, and keep you up to date on the Library. New faculty will want to visit the New Faculty page to get an idea of what’s available here on- and off-campus.
Things are changing rapidly in information and research, and even the Library staff sometimes feels like Alice Through the Looking Glass, running just as fast as we can just to stay in one place…. and we can’t afford to stay in just one place! We certainly don’t expect the faculty and staff to keep up with every detail of Library services and the changes in them, so we try to put the information out there, with every chance we get. We’re always glad to come to meetings to update you with the latest in services.
Copyright is a big issue for faculty, whether you’re putting materials on reserve (online or in the Reserve Room), or making sure your handouts are within guidelines. The Copyright Guidelines can help to answer the most frequent questions. There are also directions for putting materials on Electronic Reserves, including linking to reserve materials on your own web site.
There are also links on services such as Ingenta, which can help you maintain current awareness of literature in your field, and on Turnitin, which is a system designed to help students learn to correctly cite information used in research papers and avoid plagiarism.
There are also links to help with requesting new materials to be purchased for the Library, and a list of the latest new materials.
The Library uses a system of Liaison Librarians for various subject areas, who specialize in helping faculty in particular disciplines. However, any staff member is always happy to work with faculty in any area to answer questions and help to request materials. Librarians also do orientations for classes (please schedule in advance so our special room is reserved for you), and work in groups or one-on-one to promote library services, new or old, to faculty members.
